I was apprehensive about buying this generator because they don't have a network of service centers... they tell you to take it to any small engine shop near you and contact them about charges under warranty. I called their cust svc and talked with them about the need for third party verification regarding parts needed and they assured me none was required.. I could fix it myself if I wanted.. just call them and tell them what I needed and they'd send it out. That seemed fair enough. It took a little over a week to get mine and it was delivered by USF Holland freight and arrived in pristine condition.. hats off to Holland. I got the liftgate delivery and he backed that big semi right up to my garage door...took his hand truck and set the small skid it was banded to in the center of my garage.. he required no help.. I never touched it until he was gone. These come packed in a cardboard carton and the packaging is well engineered.. thick foam all sides.. top and bottom.. all loose... Read more

Received Item as promised, great generator, easy to assemble, at 72 I had it ready to rock and roll in about 2 hour. Packaging was above average and with tailgate delivery I never had to touch the unit until after the driver left. Filled with oil and gas, turn on the gas valve and away it went. I back fed my main panel, hit the transfer switch and powered my whole house
with hardly any surge in the generator. Perfect for the backup I wanted. Used 50a 4 wire plug, 4/c #8 cord.

I had one small issue with the initial use of this product. The engine did not run at a constant rate. Dealing with the vendor was a pleasant experience. After a small tweak to the carburetor, the engine's been running great. We get plenty of power outages in our area. This generator has already come in handy on a couple of occasions. Before buying this unit , I did lots and lots of research. Consensus seems to be that you need about 40% more BTUs for a portable air conditioner than for a window AC and about an additional 10% more in BTUs if room gets lots of sun. I think this is why so many posters on many portable AC reviews(all brands)complain of lack of cooling. They buy units that are too small because they base it on the BTUS needed for window units. You can use a search engine to get guidelines for size or AC needed. I use this Sunpentown 1010E in a 275 square foot room that gets lots of afternoon sun. It cools very well with a strong air flow. No matter what you buy, look for cubic feet per minute air output. More air flow , more cool air. This one is 276 cubic feet per minute, which is more flow than many of the others of its size.
The foam insulation for this unit is ugly looking but it does seem to fill up the gaps in the window space so no air seems to get in or out. I keep the hose... Read more

The idea of a portable AC is great. The Sunpentown machine itself is great, it really churns out cool air. The problems with the design in my opinion, which any potential buyer needs to be aware of, are the following:

1) the exhaust pipe going from the machine to the window is not insulated, so it actually becomes very very hot when the machine is operating at full bore. It is not hot enough to pose a hazard when touched, but it actuallly re-heats the room on the way to the window. Overall the room does cool down but there is an inherent inefficiency in the way the room is cooled on one side of the machine then partially re-warmed on the other. Commercial units I've seen utilize an insulated pipe as exhaust.

2) The window mounting supplies for the exhaust pipe are a complete joke, a real slap in the face to the consumer. What is needed is something rigid which can be sized to the window frame. The company supplies a piece of flexible foam to be cut to... Read more

I've had one for a couple of months, and am VERY disappointed with it. It puts out cool air, but definitely not cold air... Consequently, at best, it can get my bedroom down 10-15 degrees in temp, after several hours of running full blast. (Note that I quickly gave up trying to use it in my livingroom, where it would make almost no detectable change in room temp...)

A MUCH better choice I think would be to go with a std window unit (albeit it would be more difficult to install). It would work much better, and be much less expensive as well!!!

Bought this after my NEW Frigidaire AC broke after one month and left me sweating in the recent week long 110F heat wave. I swore I would never buy another Frigidaire again. (CEO's take note: That's what happens when you trade quality for profit. No more customers, no more profit.)
The Sharp was so easy to install (and I have my left arm in a cast, I did it basically with one good hand, by myself!) it was up and running in 10 minutes. VERY user friendly instructions. I had no idea what a "negative ion generator" was, but I am sold on it now. It's like standing next to clear mountain stream. I really like the "negative ion" technology. So far it is working well, and actually cools the air.
A tip for installing any of these wheeled portables: Use Duct tape.
